Ram Gopal Varma, is back in the line of fire


As his current project Bezwada Rowdies, insinuates that the people of Vijaywada, which is also known as Bezwada, is rather boisterous. In fact, local authorities have given the director an ultimatum to submit a copy of his film script or stop filming. The film, which went on floors four days ago, dwells on the city's gang wars in the mid 90s. From the very first day of filming, it has received opposition from local groups. The issue had catapulted to such a great extent that leaders from all groups asked veteran film personalities, like Akkineni Nageswara Rao, to ensure that no member from their families partake in the film.  Interestingly, the male lead in the film, Tollywood star Nagarjuna's son, Naga Chaitanya, is the grandson of Rao. Tensions then escalated while shooting at the presiding deity Kanaka Durga temple ghat road. Due to the obstruction caused by the people at the site, the director immediately sought permission and protection from police commissioner Amit Garg, reportedly with a word from director general of police, K Aravinda Rao. Following this, lawyers from Vijayawada have united under the 'Sarvodaya' banner, submitting a memorandum to Garg, on Tuesday, demanding withdrawal of permission for the shooting. The complaint stated, "Vijayawada is being depicted as a bad city by Varma and the movie would spoil the reputation of the city." 

In response to this complaint, the Vijayawada city police have suspended the film's permission to shoot. Garg has asked the film unit to provide a copy of the film script. When contacted, Garg said, "If they give us the copy of script, we can get it examined by people concerned and decide if anything objectionable is there" However, RGV has refused to comply.
